A beautiful week with Bus 1!

Dear parents of Bus 1,

Another beautiful week with our bus has come to an end, but another is about to begin. Last Sunday, our bus visited Mt. Herzl, Israel’s national cemetery, where we learned about Theodor Herzl’s life and vision for Israel. We paid respect to fallen soldiers; from then and now, and listened to their stories. Straight from there, our bus visited Kfar Yeladim Orphanage, where the teens got the chance to interact with many two year olds. We couldn’t tell you whose smiles were bigger; the teens or the toddlers! We finished the day by having a night out at the RootOne event where we met up with hundreds of other buses from around the world. After a long drive to Eilat, the next day was full of fun in the water. Between tubing, banana boating, swimming in the Red Sea, we kept cool in the hot weather! We ended off the day with shopping on the boardwalk. The next day we visited Mitzpe Rimon to learn about Ilan Ramon’s journey through space. We took turns facing our fears and rappelling down the mountain- what a rush! We then traveled to our next destination: Kfar Hanokdim; the Bedouin Tents! We learned about how the bedouins live by following in their footsteps; camel riding, eating on cushions, and sleeping in the great outdoors .  We were up the next day before the sun rose to make our way to Masada. We climbed the Roman path in the dark and were treated to true beauty at the top. After a prayer stop, we toured the top of Masada and learned about the unique historical events. We then traveled to Ein Bokek, and enjoyed a fun water hike with waterfalls and shallow pools. Our next stop was the Dead Sea, where we enjoyed the floating experience. The last day before our free weekend we spent at the Biblical Museum of Natural History. Here our teens got hands on with spiders, snakes, furry animals and more! We visited the Jewish Journey Fair to stock up on information on upcoming programs for next year, and next summer. With lots of hugs and tears, we parted ways for the weekend. Tomorrow we meet up again to explore Tel-Aviv. We can’t wait!

Sincerely,

Yehudis Cagen & Rabbi Fhima
